Staff Analysis of the Legislation

HB 497 amends Article 6 of Chapter 11 of Title 15 of the OCGA by adding that any petition alleging delinquency the 30 day period shall not end until an informal adjustment or nonadjudiciartory procedure has failed. In addition courts may grant joint custody with a de facto custodian if it is in the best interest of the child. A de facto custodian is someone who has resided with a child three years or younger for at least 6 months or three years and older for at least one year.
